تزداد الحاجة بشكل مضطرد إلى توفير حماية للبيانات الشخصية للأفراد، والتي صارت في ضوء التقنيات الحديثة ووسائل التواصل الاجتماعي - متداولة بشكل شبه يومي، حتى إن معظم الجهات الحكومية وغير الحكومية تطلب - في كثير من الأحيان الإفصاح عن جانب من تلك البيانات كشرط لتقديم خدماتها للأفراد، أو الشراء سلعة من المواقع الالكترونية، وفي سبيل الحصول على تلك الخدمة، أو شراء السلعة يفصح الشخص عن بياناته بحسن نية ودون أن يُفكر في مصير تلك البيانات.
ولا شك أن خصوصية بياناته الفرد الشخصية تحتاج إلى الاعتراف القانوني، وتوفير الحماية الجنائية لها، بحيث لا تصبح بياناته نافذة قابلة للاطلاع عليها، لتحقيق رغبات الفضوليين، أو لتحقيق جرائم تتطلب ذلك الإطلاع، وهو ما حدا بالتشريعات الوطنية المختلفة أن توفر لها الحماية القانونية اللازمة إزاء التدخل غير المشروع للاعتداء على البيانات الشخصية، أو المساس بها. فالخصوصية قديمة قدم البشرية واحترامها أمر لا ريب في وجوبه.

The need to provide protection for individuals' personal data is steadily increasing, which in light of modern technologies and social media has become almost daily, so that most governmental and non-governmental entities often request the disclosure of some of that data as a condition for providing their services to individuals, or for purchasing a product from websites.
In order to obtain that service, or purchase the product, the person discloses his data in good faith and without thinking about the fate of that data.
There is no doubt that the privacy of an individual's personal data requires legal recognition and the provision of criminal protection for it, so that his data does not become a window that can be viewed, to fulfill the desires of the curious, or to commit crimes that require such viewing, which prompted the various national legislations to provide it with the necessary legal protection against unlawful interference to attack or tamper with personal data. Privacy is as old as humanity and respecting it is undoubtedly a must
