تعتبر ظاهرة "العنف الأسري" من أخطر الظواهر التي تهدد الاستقرار الاجتماعي والنظام العام في أي مجتمع من المجتمعات، وهي ظاهرة ذات آثار خطيرة ومتشعبة،فالعنف الأسري يهدد كيان الأسرة أساس المجتمع بالانهيار، فالمجني عليه يواجه الخطر من حيث كان ينتظر الأمان والحماية، ولهذا كان من المنطقي أن تتدخل السياسة الجنائية لتجريم كافة صور العنف الأسري. وإذا كانت ظاهرة العنف الأسري قديمة قدم الأسرة، ولكنها أكثر حضوراً في الفترة الأخيرة نتيجة التطورات السياسية والضغوط الاجتماعية والاقتصادية على الأسرة التي أفرزتها ظروف الحياة المعاصرة وتطوراتها، فهناك تغيّر ملموس في أنماط السلوك،إذ إن الروابط الاجتماعية وما يرتبط بها من سلوكيات وتقاليد ضعفت وتآكلت، فضلاً عن ان الانفتاح على الثقافات المختلفة بفضل التطور التكنولوجي أدّى إلى اكتساب سلوكيات جديدةبدأت تطفو على السطح وتؤرق المجتمع البحريني، بما تخلّفه من آثار على الأسرة نتيجة الاعتداءات المادية والمعنوية التي تمارس داخلها وترتكب بحق أي فرد من أفرادها لاسيما الأطفال والنساء. إن ممارسة العنف ضد أحد أفراد الأسرة بمختلف صوره يكشف عن العلاقات غير المتكافئة داخل الأسرة، الأمر الذي لا يتطلب الاكتفاء بالمواجهة الجنائية، بل علاج الأسباب المؤدية لذلك وهذا يكون بتقويم الاعوجاج وإدخال نوع من التوازن في العلاقات الأسرية على نحو يتم فيه تمكين الأطراف الضعيفة في الأسرة.

The phenomenon of "domestic violence" is considered one of the most dangerous phenomena that threatens social stability and public order in any society, and it is a phenomenon with serious effects. It is manifold, as domestic violence threatens the family entity, the foundation of society, with its collapse.
The victim faces danger from where he was waiting for safety and protection. Therefore, it was logical for the criminal policy to intervene to criminalize all forms of domestic violence. If the phenomenon of domestic violence is as old as the family, but it is more present in the recent period as a result of political developments and social and economic pressures on the family that resulted from the conditions and developments of contemporary life, there is a tangible change in the patterns of behavior, as social ties and the associated behaviors and traditions have weakened and eroded, In addition, the openness to different cultures, thanks to technological development, led to the acquisition of new behaviors that began to surface and disturb the Bahraini society, with its effects on the family as a result of the physical and moral attacks that are practiced within it and committed against any of its members, especially children and women.
The practice of violence against a family member in its various forms reveals unequal relations within the family, which does not require only criminal confrontation, but rather treatment of the causes leading to this, and this is by straightening the distortion and introducing a kind of balance in family relations in a way that empowers the weak parties in the family
